"Follow your dreams. Take one step at a time. Don't settle for less, just continue to climb" Amanda Bradley
This poem excerpt rests on a drawing table in a small apartment in Athens, Georgia, where I (Marshall Reddoch) hang my hat. It provides me inspiration to paint, draw, sketch. I have studied and created art for the last four decades. I have worked and studied near and far from my original home in Alabama. My artistic training has been diverse and peripatetic-- ranging from studying folk art at schools tucked away in the Appalachian mountains to the upscale galleries of Madrid. I always seek to see beyond the norm to find different ways to inspire new fancy. I paint from a classical point of view- changing raw energy, love, and pain in ways that capture traditional scenes in unconventional settings.
One of my favorite subjects is flowers. At first glance, a Georgia O'Keefe influence leaps to mind. Take a few steps back, however, and the boldness behind the colors demonstrates something more unique to the vision that I hope to share with observers. I often like to paint flowers because they symbolize hope and creation. Flowers come up from the dirt and often surprise us with their beauty and vitality. In many ways I'm trying to live up to the same promise that flowers have always represented to me.
